1314 shlf Good morning everybody! It's my honor to speak here, and I am very glad to share my topic with you. Then today I'd like to talk something about What we cannot afford to lose! During our lifetime we will meet wlth all kinds of difficulties, and most peple will feel depressed and then give up,while only a few people are able to adhere to the end .in my opinion ,to some degree, perseverance:[,p?:si'vi?r?ns] is one of most important things we should cherish ,which will finally contribute to our success. There is a story I have ever read that In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roeblingwas inspired to build a spectacular:

[spek't?kjul? [壮观的] bridge connecting New York with Long Island. However bridge-building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea.but Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. After much discussion the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles[障碍] could be overcome. They hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

1314 shlf The project started well, but a few months later a tragic accident made Washington injured, unable to walk or talkor even move.

1314 shlf In spite of his handicap:['h?ndik?p] [身体的不便] ,Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever. Finally the bridge was completed 13 years later .

Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute:['tribju:t] to the triumph ['trai?mf] 成功of one man's indomitable:[in'd?mit?bl] [不屈不挠的`] spirit and his determination[坚定] not to be defeated by circumstances.

After I read the story I realized that perseverance is much more important than many other things , And those who are optimistic and self-confident, and who enjoy doing something new, worry less about failure are the example we should learn from.

We need to appreciate the value in living, despite its many setbacks. Roads are for the journey, not the destination. Sunshine awaits those who keep the path!

1314 shlf Wide sea diving, the days of the birds to fly。 Everyone carries a dream of their own。

1314 shlf However, what is the dream? What is dream? Dream is looking forward to, and the dream is strong — is fleeting dream you insist on the ideal as their courage and perseverance, are you responsible for their own highest level。 But ask yourself, how many of us to accomplish his original dream in mind?

1314 shlf Our dream is a simple belief, is a future and life of their own responsibility。 Perhaps, is the Youth

grand ambitions; perhaps, is the adolescent confusion and impulsive; maybe just a plain desire, desire applause, eager for success。 Countless "may," innumerable "hope" because of our youthful full of miracles, large and small dreams in our hearts, in every corner of life filled with fragrance。

Only the ideal but no effort is useless。 If you want to be a teacher, you should to study hard。 If you want to be a player, you should do more exercises。 If you want to become a businessman, he should learn to get along with people。 For example, my wish is to be a famous writer grew up, because I really love writing, so from now on, I should read more, more accumulate knowledge, and strive to improve writing level。 No pains, no gains, because my efforts, so my article was punished in many newspapers , and in many composition contest, I see the success I'm happy, so, struggle is the bridge to the ideal。

Yes, my dream。 to give my famliy a warm, give my friend happy。 Yes, my dream。 The podium from the first station began his love this place, started from the first published an article looking forward to the world of words, decided to stay here from the beginning, stick to bottom of my heart desire。

1314 shlf Years in our faces no matter how many additional traces, no matter how much things to us across the chest wounds, as long as we have the right to breathe, to have a passion for remodeling dreams! Oxygen to survive as long as we have to have the courage to create a passion!

1314 shlf Choose to continue, select the value, select the achievements of the passion of life, the brave hearts of the initial dream of success!

it's a very intresting topic today. i think my dad was a hero for me when i was a young child. wed go fishing, walks, and other fun things for a kid. every child has a good and great father, and so do i. my dad played a very important role in my daily life——exactly speaking, in my past 16 years. my father always stands in the center of my life, from past till now and possibly in the future.

1314 shlf my family was rather poor when i was in my childhood. we didnt have our own house and had to live in a shabby, small room rented from my fathers factory. the room was so small that there was little space for people to walk. i didnt have my own bed and had to sleep with my parents. this is terrible both for my parents and me. but father made this all different!he works very hard on his own business, now we have our own 2 housese, surly, i have my own he take our family so much happiness, richer and richer. when i was little, i did everything with my dad. you could always find me sitting on his knee or walking and doing everything with him. every night he would read me a bed time story and make the voices of each character. i learnt a lot from my daddy. i learnt to never take things to seriously and to always smile.

years pasted, my father is over 45 now. it is time for me to look after him and i am sure i will do and we will live an even better life. and i will say,i really love you dad, cause you are the hero in my mind. thank you so much!

Father had a family, these children often squabble. He has no way to dissuade them, but to let them have a look not gregarious evils example. In order to achieve this goal, he one day told them to bring him a bundle of sticks to. When they haddone, he has placed the faggot in the hands of each of them, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They each tried with all their strength, and were not able to do.

Then he untied the bundle of sticks, one by one, and again put them into their hands, thus, they easily broke. And he said to them:" the children! If all of you together, help each other, you will be as this faggot, can be your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be and the sticks in general, not ninety percent off.

five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of captivity.

but one hundred years later, we must face the tragic fact that the negro is still not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languishing in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. so we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition.

in a sense we have come to our nation"s capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation.

1314 shlf so we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

we have also come to this hallowed spot to remind america of the fierce urgency of now. this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of god"s children. now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.

1314 shlf it would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the negro. this sweltering summer of the negro"s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning.

those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. there will be neither rest nor tranquility in america until the negro is granted his citizenship rights. the whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

1314 shlf but there is something that i must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. in the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

1314 shlf we must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. we must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

1314 shlf the marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the negro community must not lead us to distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

1314 shlf we cannot walk as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. we cannot turn back. there are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "when will you be satisfied?" we can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. we cannot be satisfied as long as the negro"s basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. we can never be satisfied as long as a negro in mississippi cannot vote and a negro in new york believes he has nothing for which to vote. no, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream. 《1》《2》

1314 shlf i am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. some of you have come fresh from narrow cells. some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. you have been the veterans of creative suffering. continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.

go back to mississippi, go back to alabama, go back to georgia, go back to louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. let us not wallow in the valley of despair.

i say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, i still have a dream. it is a dream deeply rooted in the american dream.

i have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

1314 shlf i have a dream that one day on the red hills of georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

i have a dream that one day even the state of mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

i have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

  i have a dream today.

1314 shlf i have a dream that one day the state of alabama, whose governor"s lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.

  i have a dream today.

i have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

this is our hope. this is the faith with which i return to the south. with this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. with this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. with this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

this will be the day when all of god"s children will be able to sing with a new meaning, "my country, "tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee i sing. land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim"s pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."

1314 shlf and if america is to be a great nation this must become true. so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of new hampshire. let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of new york. let freedom ring from the heightening alleghenies of pennsylvania!

let freedom ring from the snowcapped rockies of colorado!

let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of california!

but not only that; let freedom ring from stone mountain of georgia!

1314 shlf let freedom ring from lookout mountain of tennessee!

let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of mississippi. from every mountainside, let freedom ring.

1314 shlf when we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of god"s children, black men and white men, jews and gentiles, protestants and catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old negro spiritual, "free at last! free at last! thank god almighty, we are free at last!"

1314 shlf At every stage of our lives we make decisions that will profoundly influence the lives of the people we're going to become, and then when we become those

people, we're not always thrilled with the decisions we made. So young people pay good money to get tattoos removed that teenagers paid good money to get.

Middle-aged people rushed to divorce people who young adults rushed to marry. Older adults work hard to lose what middle-aged adults worked hard to gain. On and on and on. The question is, as a psychologist, that fascinates me is, why do we make decisions that our future selves so often regret?

Now, I think one of the reasons -- I'll try to convince you today — is that we have a fundamental misconception about the power of time. Every one of you knows that the rate of change slows over the human lifespan, that your children seem to

change by the minute but your parents seem to change by the year. But what is the name of this magical point in life where change suddenly goes from a gallop to a crawl? Is it teenage years? Is it middle age? Is it old age? The answer, it turns out, for most people, is now, wherever now happens to be. What I want to convince you today is that all of us are walking around with an illusion, an illusion that history,

1314 shlf our personal history, has just come to an end, that we have just recently become the people that we were always meant to be and will be for the rest of our lives.

Let me give you some data to back up that claim. So here's a study of change in people's personal values over time. Here's three values. Everybody here holds all of them, but you probably know that as you grow, as you age, the balance of these values shifts. So how does it do so? Well, we asked thousands of people. We asked half of them to predict for us how much their values would change in the next 10 years, and the others to tell us how much their values had changed in the last 10 years. And this enabled us to do a really interesting kind of analysis, because it allowed us to compare the predictions of people, say, 18 years old, to the reports of people who were 28, and to do that kind of analysis throughout the lifespan.

1314 shlf Here's what we found. First of all, you are right, change does slow down as we age, but second, you're wrong, because it doesn't slow nearly as much as we think. At every age, from 18 to 68 in our data set, people vastly underestimated how much change they would experience over the next 10 years. We call this the "end of history" illusion. To give you an idea of the magnitude of this effect, you can connect these two lines, and what you see here is that 18-year-olds anticipate changing only as much as 50-year-olds actually do.

Now it's not just values. It's all sorts of other things. For example, personality. Many of you know that psychologists now claim that there are five fundamental

1314 shlf dimensions of personality: neuroticism, openness to experience, agreeableness, extraversion, and conscientiousness. Again, we asked people how much they

1314 shlf expected to change over the next 10 years, and also how much they had changed

1314 shlf over the last 10 years, and what we found, well, you're going to get used to seeing this diagram over and over, because once again the rate of change does slow as we age, but at every age, people underestimate how much their personalities will change in the next decade.

1314 shlf And it isn't just ephemeral things like values and personality. You can ask people about their likes and dislikes, their basic preferences. For example, name your best friend, your favorite kind of vacation, what's your favorite hobby, what's your

1314 shlf favorite kind of music. People can name these things. We ask half of them to tell us, "Do you think that that will change over the next 10 years?" and half of them to tell us, "Did that change over the last 10 years?" And what we find, well, you've seen it twice now, and here it is again: people predict that the friend they have now is the friend they'll have in 10 years, the vacation they most enjoy now is the one they'll enjoy in 10 years, and yet, people who are 10 years older all say, "Eh, you know, that's really changed."

Does any of this matter? Is this just a form of mis-prediction that doesn't have consequences? No, it matters quite a bit, and I'll give you an example of why. It bedevils our decision-making in important ways. Bring to mind right now for

1314 shlf yourself your favorite musician today and your favorite musician 10 years ago. I put mine up on the screen to help you along. Now we asked people to predict for us, to tell us how much money they would pay right now to see their current favorite musician perform in concert 10 years from now, and on average, people said they would pay 129 dollars for that ticket. And yet, when we asked them how much they would pay to see the person who was their favorite 10 years ago perform today, they say only 80 dollars. Now, in a perfectly rational world, these should be the same number, but we overpay for the opportunity to indulge our current preferences because we overestimate their stability.

1314 shlf No one will be surprised to learn that texting is nearly universal among young adults with cell phones (so, um, all of them?). According to the data, 97 percent of cell phone users under 30 text every day. Oldsters are not far behind them: 92 percent of the 30 to 49 set text every day and 72 percent of the 50 to 64 age group do too.

1314 shlf And while texting can be a great way to stay in touch, to make seamless plans and to share the minor frustrations and comedies of daily life in almost real time, it sure has a downside. What do we lose when we settle for the plugged-in and tuned-out life? Read on to learn why it really might be time to put the phone down -- even if it's just for an hour or an afternoon or a day.

1314 shlf 1. It'll help you sleep better tonight

1314 shlf We all know that cell phone use during the wee hours can be disruptive to our sleep patterns, but it's also true that texting during the day could harm our ability to get a good night's sleep, according to a recent study in the journal Psychology of Popular Media Culture.

In the study, researchers followed the stress levels, texting habits and sleep of first year college students. They found that regardless of stress levels, the more people texted during the day the poorer their sleep was.

  2. Your divided attention could keep you from what's truly important

We're not just talking about missing special moments -- although surely, texting during time spent with loved ones can prevent full engagement. We're talking about priorities.

  3. Your posture is suffering

Texting can actually harm your whole body. People get so focused on these devices that they end up holding their neck and upper back in abnormal positions for a long period of time; enough that other people coined the phrase ‘text neck,’ which is essentially referring to postural pain.

1314 shlf Want to counteract the effect of all this stooping and texting? Bring your phone to eye level while you use it or actually training for your endurance texting with back, neck and core strengthening exercises. Oh, and give your phone a rest!

  4. We can't believe we still have to say this, but it disrupts your driving

Hopefully you know by now that you can't text and drive (since it's the law and all), but an astounding 80 percent of college-aged drivers admit to engaging in this behavior, despite knowing how dangerous it can be.

You are 23 times more likely to crash if you're texting behind the wheel, according to a federal report. And cell phone use was associated with 18 percent of "distraction"-related deaths.

1314 shlf 5. It makes you a less responsible pedestrian

Even if you aren't driving, your texting could be a liability to the people around you. A study in the British Medical Journal found that one in three people are distracted by mobile devices while walking and that texting was the most distracting of all the mobile activities -- including listening to music and talking on the phone.

The researchers observed more than 1,000 pedestrians during rush hour in Seattle and recorded their phone habits and safety precautions as they crossed traffic junctions. They reported that texting pedestrians were almost four times more likely to ignore traffic lights, fail to look both ways at a cross and to cross outside of the demarcated crosswalk.

  6. Your school or work performance will suffer

1314 shlf Your texting could be holding back your productivity at work or school. According to one study of college students, female first year students spend an average 12 hours texting and engaging in social media -- and extensive media use is associated with lower academic performance.

1314 shlf But it isn't just college students who face texting distractions. A study conducted at the University of Michigan found that short interruptions at work -- even just the duration of reading or sending a text -- can increase the number of errors a worker makes during a single task, reported HealthDay.

1314 shlf 7. It can prevent you from really enjoying the activities you cherish

Google executive Bonita Stewart banishes her cell phone from her ballet class so that she can enjoy her dance practice unfettered by her to-do list.

1314 shlf Wide sea diving, the days of the birds to fly. Everyone carries a dream of their own.

However, what is the dream? What is dream? Dream is looking forward to, and the dream is strong - is fleeting dream you insist on the ideal as their courage and perseverance, are you responsible for their own highest level. But ask yourself, how many of us to accomplish his original dream in mind?

Our dream is a simple belief, is a future and life of their own responsibility. Perhaps, is the Youth

grand ambitions; perhaps, is the adolescent confusion and impulsive; maybe just a plain desire, desire applause, eager for success. Countless "may," innumerable "hope" because of our youthful full of miracles, large and small dreams in our hearts, in every corner of life filled with fragrance.

1314 shlf Only the ideal but no effort is useless. If you want to be a teacher, you should to study hard. If you want to be a player, you should do more exercises. If you want to become a businessman, he should learn to get along with people. For example, my wish is to be a famous writer grew up, because I really love writing, so from now on, I should read more, more accumulate knowledge, and strive to improve writing level. No pains, no gains, because my efforts, so my article was punished in many newspapers , and in many composition contest, I see the success I'm happy, so, struggle is the bridge to the ideal.

1314 shlf Yes, my dream. to give my famliy a warm, give my friend happy. Yes, my dream. The podium from the first station began his love this place, started from the first published an article looking forward to the world of words, decided to stay here from the beginning, stick to bottom of my heart desire.

  Dear teachers, dear students,

Hi, everyone! The title of my speech today is "life is movement".

"Life is a sport" is a famous quote from the famous French thinker voltaire, which has been widely Shared by millions of people. However, with the TV and computer coming into various homes, sports are being pushed into the corners of our lives. In recent years, the physical fitness and physical endurance of Chinese students have been decreasing continuously, and the myopia rate of adolescents is increasing continuously. It is also not difficult to find out that some students get sick when the weather is cold, and take the air when they go up stairs. Students, is this all the performance of our vigorous young children?

1314 shlf You might say that we are so nervous every day that we don't have time to exercise. In fact, the movement is not the more, but the persistence. When you come to school in the morning, you can go to the playground twice. After dinner, walk around the house for ten minutes. These seemingly simple and unspent exercises, if done consistently, will surely result in half the effort.

We must not only take good physical education class, but also do the classroom exercises. We also have to take advantage of ten minutes of class, even if we don't get out of the classroom, to get up and walk around. You should know that you should take an active and serious exercise to achieve the goal of fitness.

1314 shlf Teachers, students: show your smiling face, do a sport of yourself, happy self, healthy self!

1314 shlf My speech is over, thank you!

Hello, class of 20xx.I am so honest to be here Khurana, faculty, parents, and most especially graduating students. Thank you so much for inviting me. The Senior Class Committee. it’s genuinely one of the most exciting things I’ve ever been asked to do. I have to admit primarily because I can’t deny it as it was leaked in the WikiLeaks release of the Sony hack that hen I was invited I replied and I directly quote my own email." Wow! This is so nice!" "I’m gonna need some funny ghost writers. Any ideas? "This initial response now blessedly public was from the knowledge that at my class day we were lucky enough to have Will Ferrel as class day speaker and many of us were hung-over, or even freshly high mainly wanted to I have to admit that today, even 12 years after graduation. I’m still insecure about my own worthless.I have to remind myself today you’re here for a reason.

Today I feel much like I did when I came to Harvard Yard as a freshman in you guys were,to my continued shocked and horror, still in kindergarten.I felt like there had been some mistake, that I wasn’t smart enough to be in this company, and that every time I opened my mouth.I would have to prove that I wasn’t just dumb I start with an apology. This won’t be very funny. I’m not a I didn’t get a ghost I am here to tell you ard is giving you all diplomas tomorrow. You are here for a reason. Sometimes your insecurities and your inexperience may lead you, too, to embrace other people’s expectations, standards, or values. But you can harness that inexperience to carve out your own path, one that is free of the burden of knowing how things are supposed to be, a path that is defined by its own particular set of reasons.

That other day I went to an amusement park with my soon-to-be 4-yeas-old son. And I watch him play arcade games. He was incredible focused, throwing his ball at the target. Jewish mother than I am, I skipped 20 steps and was already imagining him as a major league player with what is his

1314 shlf arm and his arm and his concentration. But then I realized what he want. He was playing to trade in his tickets for the crappy plastic toy. The prize was much more exciting than the game to get it. I of course wanted to urge him to take joy and the challenge of the game, the improvement upon practice, the satisfaction of doing something well, and even feeling the accomplishment when achieving the game’s goals. But all of these aspects were shaded by the 10 cent plastic men with sticky stretchy blue arms that adhere to the walls. That-that was the prize. In a child’s nature, we see many of our own innate tendencies. I saw myself in him and perhaps you do too.

Prizes serve as false idols everywhere(圣经里的false idol). Prestige, wealth, fame, power. You’ll be exposed to many of these, if not all. Of course, part of why I was invited to come to speak today beyond my being a proud alumna is that I’ve recruited some very coveted toys in my life including a not so plastic, not so crappy one: an Oscar. So we bump up against the common troll I think of the commencement address people who have achieved a lot telling you that the fruits of the achievement are not always to be trusted. But I think that contradiction can be reconciled and is in fact instructive. Achievement is wonderful when you know why you’re doing it. And when you don’t know, it can be a terrible trap.

1314 shlf I went to a public high school on Long Island, Syosset High School. Ooh, hello, Syosset! The girls I went to school with had Prada bags and flat-ironed hair. And they spoke with an accent I who had moved there at age 9 from Connecticut mimicked to fit in. Florida Oranges, Chocolate cherries. Since I ’m ancient and the Internet was just starting when I was in high school. People didn’t really pay that much of attention to the fact that that I was an actress. I was known mainly at school for having a back bigger than I was and always having white-out on my hands because I hated seeing anything crossed out in my note books. I was voted for my senior yearbook ‘ most likely to be an contestant on Jeopardy ’ or code for nerdiest. When I got to Harvard just after the release of Star Wars: Episode 1, I knew I would be staring over in terms of how people viewed me. I feared people would have assumed I’d gotten in just for being famous, and that they would think that I was not worthy of the intellectual rigor here. And it would not have been far from the truth. When I came here I had never written a 10-paper before. I’m not even sure I’ve written a 5-page paper. I was alarmed and intimidated by the calm eyes of a fellow student who came here from Dalton or Exeter who thought that compared to high school the workload here was easy. I was completely overwhelmed and thought that reading 1000 pages a week was unimaginable, that writing a 50-page thesis is just something I could never do. I Had no idea how to declare my intentions. I couldn’t even articulate them to myself.

1314 shlf I’ve been acting since I was 11. But I thought acting was too frivolous and certainly not meaningful. I came from a family of academics and was very concerned of being taken seriously. In contrast to my inability to declare myself, on my first day of orientation freshman year, five separate students introduced themselves to me by saying, I’m going to be president. Remember I told you that. Their names, for the record, were Bernie Sanders, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton. In all seriousness, I believed every one of them. Their bearing and self-confidence alone seemed proof of their prophecy where I couldn’t shake my self-doubt. I got in only because I was famous. This was how others saw me and it was how I saw myself. Driven by these insecurities, I decided I was going to find something to do in Harvard that was serious and meaningful that would change the world and make it a better place.

1314 shlf At the age of 18, I’d already been acting for 7 years, and assumed I find a more serious and profound path in college. So freshman fall I decided to take neurologist and advanced modern Hebrew literature because I was serious and intellectual. Needless to say, I should have failed both.

I got Bs, for your information, and to this day, every Sunday I burn a small effigy to the pagan Gods of grade inflation. But as I was fighting my way through Aleph Bet Yod Y shua in Hebrew and the different mechanisms of neuro-response, I saw friends around me writing papers on sailing and pop culture magazines, and professors teaching classes on fairy tales and The Matrix. I realized that seriousness for seriousness’s sake was its own kind of trophy, and a dubious one, a pose I sought to counter some half-imagined argument about who I was. There was a reason that I was an actor. I love what I do. And I saw from my peers and my mentors that it was not only an acceptable reason, it was the best reason.

When I got to my graduation, siting where you sit today, after 4 years of trying to get excited about something else, I admitted to myself that I couldn’t wait to go back and make more films. I wanted to tell stories, to imagine the lives of others and help others do the same. I have found or perhaps reclaimed my reason. You have a prize now or at least you will tomorrow. The prize is Harvard degree in your hand. But what is your reason behind it ? My Harvard degree represents, for me, the curiosity and invention that were encouraged here, the friendships I’ve sustained the way Professor Graham told me not to describe the way light hit a flower but rather the shadow the flower cast, the way Professor Scarry talked about theater is a trans-formative religious force how professor Coslin showed how much our visual cortex is activated just by imaging. Now granted these things don’t necessarily help me answer the most common question I’m asked:What designer are you wearing? What’s your fitness regime?Any makeup tips? But I have never since been embarrassed to myself as what might previously have thought was a stupid Harvard degree and other awards are emblems of the experiences which led me to wood paneled lecture halls, the colorful fall leaves, the hot vanilla Toscaninis, reading great novels in overstuffed library ing through dining halls !Ah!City steps!City steps!City steps!City steps!

1314 shlf It’s easy now to romanticize my time Ihad some very difficult times here combination of being 19,dealing with my first heartbreak, taking birth control pills that have since been taken off the market for their depressive side effects, and spending too much time missing daylight during winter months, led me to some pretty dark moments, particularly during sophomore e were several occasions where I started crying in meetings with professors, overwhelmed with what I was supposed to pull off ,when I could barely get myself out of bed in the morning. Moments when I took on the motto for my school work:Done,Not only I could finish my work, even if it took eating a jumbo pack of sour Patch Kids to get me through a single 10-page paper.I felt I’ve accomplished a great feat,I repeat to myself:Done,Not good.

A couple years ago,I went to Tokyo with my husband, and I ate at the most remarkable sushi restaurant,I don’t even eat fish,I’m that tells you how good it with just vegetable, this sushi was the stuff you dreamed restaurant has six husband and I marveled at how anyone can make rice so superior to all other wondered why they don’t make a bigger restaurant, and be the most popular place in local friends explain to us that all the best restaurants in Tokyo are that small, and do only one type of dish:sushi or tempura or use they want to do things well and it’s not about ’s about taking pleasure in the perfection and beauty of the particular.I’m still learning now that it’s about good and maybe never the joy and work ethic and virtuosity we bring to the particular can impart a singular type of enjoyment to those we give to,and of course to ourselves.

In my professional life,it also took me time to find my own reason for doing my first film I was in came out in 1994.Again,appallingly,the year most of you were born,I was 13 years old upon the film’s release, and I can still quote what the New York Times said about me verbatim,[Ms Portman poses better than she acts],The film had a universally tepid critic response, and went on to bomb film was called ‘The Professional,or Leon in Europe’ And today,20 years and 35 films later,it is still the film people approach me about the most,to tell me how much they loved it,how much it moved them, how it’s their favorite movie.I feel lucky that my first experience of releasing a film was initially such a disaster by all standards and measures.I learned early that my meaning had to be from the experience of making the film and the possibility of connecting with individuals, rather than the foremost trophies in my industry/financial and critical also these initial reaction could be false predictors of your work’s ultimate legacy.I started choosing only jobs that I’m passionate about, and from which I knew I could glean meaningful thoroughly confused everyone around me:agents, producers, and audiences alike,I made Gotya’s Ghost,a foreign independent film and studied art history, visiting the produce everyday for 4 months as I read about Goya and the Spanish Inquisition,I made V for Vendetta, studio action movie for which I learned everything I could about freedom fighters whom otherwise may be called terrorists from Menachem Begin to Weather Underground.I made Your Highness,a pothead comedy with Danny McBride and laughed for 3 months straight.I was able to own my meaning and not have it be determined by box office receipts or prestige.

By the time I got to making Black Swan, the experience was entirely my own,I felt immune to the worst things anyone could say or write about me. And to whether the audience felt like to see my movie or was instructive for me to see ballet dancers, once your technique gets to a certain level, the only thing that separates you from others is your quirks or flaws.(怪异甚至瑕疵) ballerina was famous for how she turned slightly off can never be the best, one will always have a higher jump or a more beautiful only thing you can be the best at is developing your own oring your own experience was very much what Black Swan itself was about.I worked with Darren Aronofsky the director whom changed my last line in the movie to:It was use my characte Nina is only artistically successful when she finds perfection and pleasure for herself, not when she was trying to be perfect in the eyes of when Black Swan was successful financially and I began receiving accolades.I felt honored and grateful to have connected with the true core of my meaning I had already I needed it to be independent of people’s reactions to le told me that Black Swan was an artistic risk.A scary challenge to try to portray a professional ballet it didn’t feel like courage or daring that drove me do it.I was so oblivious to my own limits that I did things I was woefully unprepared to so the very inexperience that in college had made me feel made me want to play by others’ is making me actually take risks.I didn’t even realize were Darren asked me if I could do ballet,I told him that I was basically a ballerina which by the way I wholeheartedly it quickly became clear that preparing for the film that I was 15 years away from being a made me work a million times harder and of course the magic of cinema and body doubles helped the final the point is,if I had known my own limitations,I never would have taken the the risk led to one of my greatest artistic personal that I not only felt completely free,I also met my husband during the filming.

Similarly,I just directed my first film,A Tale of Love in Darkness.I was quite blind to the challenges ahead of film is a period film, completely in Hebrew in which I also act with an eight-year old child as a of these are challenges I should have been terrified of,as I was completely unprepared for my complete ignorance to my own limitation looked like confidence and got me into the director’s there,I had to figure it all out,and my belief that I could handle these things contrary to all evidence of my ability to do so was only half the other half was very hard experience was the deepest and most meaningful one of my clearly I’m not urging you to go and perform heart surgery without the knowledge to do so!Making movies admittedly has less drastic consequences than most professions, and allows for a lot effects that make up for thing I’m saying is,make use of the fact that you don’t doubt yourself too much right we get older,we get more realistic, and that includes about our abilities or lack that realism does us no le always talk about diving into things you’re afraid never worked for I’m afraid,I run I would probably urge my child to do the protects us in many has served me is diving into my g more confident than I should be which everyone tends to decry American kids, and those of us who have been grade inflated and ego , it can be a good thing if it makes you try you never might have inexperience is an asset, and will allow you to think in original and unconventional pt your lack of knowledge and use it as your asset.

I know a famous violinist who told me that he can’t compose because he knows too many pieces,so when he starts thinking of the note and existing piece immediately comes to starting out one of your biggest strengths,is not knowing how things are supposed to can compose freely because your mind isn’t cluttered with too many you don’t take for granted the way how things only way you know how to do things is your own here will go on to achieve great e is no doubt about time you set out to do something new, your inexperience can either lead you down a path where you will conform to someone else’s values,or you can forge your own though you don’t realize that’s what you’re your reason are your path, even if it is a strange and clumsy path, will be wholly you will control the rewards of what you do,but making your internal life fulfilling the risk of sounding like America contestant, the most fulfilling things I’ve experienced have truly been the humaninteraction:spending time with women in village banks in Mexico with FINCA microfinance organization, meeting young women who were the first and the only in their communities to attend secondary schools in rural Kenya;with Free the Children group that built sustainable schools in developing countries, tracking with gorilla conservationists(自然保护主义) in ’s a cliche(这是老生常谈),because it’s true, that helping others ends up helping you more than ing out of your concerns, and caring about some else’s life for a while, reminds you that you are not the center of the that in the ways we’re generous or not,we can change the course of someone’s at work, the small feat of kindness, crew members, directors, fellow actors have shown me,have had the most lasting impact.

And of course, first and foremost, the center of my world,is the love that I share with my family and friends.I wish you that your friends will be with you through it all,as my friends from Harvard have been together since we friends from school are still very have nursed each other through heartaches and danced at each others’ ’ve held each other at funerals, and rocked each other’s new worked together on projects, helped each other get jobs, and thrown parties for when we’ve quit bad now our children are creating a second generation of friendship,as we look at them toddling ard and disheveled working parents(疲惫而凌乱的上班族家长) that we the good people around you and don’t let them biggest asset this school offers you,is a group of peers that will both be your family and your school for life.

1314 shlf I remember always being pissed at the spring here in king us into remembering,a sunny yard full of laughing frisbee throwers.(阳光洒满院子,人们扔着飞盘欢声笑语的'场景)r 8 months of dark was like the school has managed to turn on the good weather,as a last memory we should keep in mind that would make us want to come as I get further away from my years here,I know the power of this school is much deeper than weather changed the very question that I was quote one of my favorite thinkers Abraham Joshua Heschel:To be or not to be is not the question, the vital question is:how to be and how not to be. Thank you. I can’t wait to see how you do all the beautiful things you will do.

1314 shlf Eagle in a Storm

1314 shlf Did you know that an eagle know when a storm is approaching long before it breaks?

The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits. it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring about it.

1314 shlf The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.

When the storms of life come upon us—and all of us will experience them—we can rise above them by setting our belief that we can make it. The storms do not have to overcome. We can allow our inner power to lift us above them.

1314 shlf We can enable ourselves to rich the winds of the storm that bring sickness, failure and disappointment in our can soar above the storm.

1314 shlf Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them.

1314 shlf We often hear people say, “Never give up.” These can be encouraging words and words of determination. A person who believes in them will keep trying to reach his goal no matter how many times he fails. In my opinion, the quality of determination to succeed is an important one to have. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.

1314 shlf One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. Finally, we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives. If we never challenge ourselves, we will begin to doubt our abilities.

In short, it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not, we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to become better, .more confident people. Furthermore, if we give up, we have non chance of attaining our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.

Good morning , ladies and gentlemen.

It’s my great honor to give a speech here.

My topic today is Learn to be a real teacher.

1314 shlf People often say: Teacher is the engineer of human spirit. But how to be a real teacher? The issue lingering in my mind for a long time.

1314 shlf I still remember the days three years ago, I came to the present school . Hurrying into the classroom and starting my first class, I was almost blind about the teaching materials and the students. What I had was only a heart full of love and enthusiasm. In my mind, I wanted to be friends with them and love them. However, things were not as I expected. Students in my class just kept on talking and giggling, ignoring my existence... I just can’t control my class! What should I do? For a while, each time walking into the classroom, I felt like I was approaching the hell. That experience was really a nightmare to me.

The second term , I was assigned to teach two new classes of grade 7. I decided to build strict classroom rules so that I could have a stable teaching environment. Things went on smoothly as I expected, they behaved well in my class, homework was finished carefully , test results were always among the best… I was very satisfied. I had thought I knew how to be a good teacher until one day, I was told by their Chinese teacher to read an article about me, titled “A brief smile”. It read, “My English teacher is very beautiful, but usually she is too strict, we are all

1314 shlf afraid of her, until today, I don't know when she smiles. She has two dimples...” I laughed, but then reflected on myself, I helped them gain outstanding grades, but lost their love.

This term, I took over two other classes of grade 9. I know it’s time to change. I insist a strict requirement with them at class, yet I show my great care towards them after class. Recently a girl’s mother gave me a call, she said it was the first time for her to see her daughter recite English text! Another parent said that his daughter began to be interested in English learning, it is not only because of my teaching well, but because she could tell that I care them and respect them. Hearing these, I feel a flush of joy and pride.

I know now I’m on the right track. I walk more firmly and more confidently. As the saying goes, “Happy is the man who is living by his hobby”, I consider teaching as my hobby, I’ll make great efforts to make both my students and myself enjoy the happy life.
